'Restorative' trip to the Salton Sea; Western and Southern parts

So, explored the Sea Proper.

From 84th Ave, to Riviera Trailer Park, to Salton Sea National Wildlife Refuge Headquarters, and then back to Salton Sea National Wildlife Refuge, and then Salton Sea Beach(Brawley then left to El Centro), then here at Starbucks in Indio Plaza something(24, McDonalds, Target).

Poe Rd, didn't push my luck because by then I was worried about my car lol(unpaved road).

The best spot is Headquarters(Southern portion of Salton Sea is called Sonny Bonno Salton Sea National Wildlife Refuge), in accessibility and variety, reminded me of Bolsa Chica. Was shocked the discover Gambel's Quails gamboling around! Turkey Vulture was flying overhead(the staff told me lol).
The trees and bushes around the building and observation deck were teeming with birds, the variety of birdsongs were astounding! One or two, didn't even hear before. Doves and Sparrows(white crowned. Maybe Savannah too?) were abundant of course(did I spot an Inca Dove? Think I took a pic of that one?), but also Great-tailed Grackle was present methink, along with the Red-winged or Tricolored Blackbird.

Along the trail to the Lake, sitting on the wires above, were Tree Swallows, an expert birder(leader of 3 birders) told me. So THOSE were the birds that were ubiquitous at the Northern portion two days before, at the end of Johnson St., swirling around!
Some Geese were milling around at the field near-by.

Especially was gratified to spot American Avocets!  Flocks of them were at the Pond(or small Lake, on which 5 small islands were created for hatching grounds, etc). I actually think more birds were at the Pond than at the Lake itself
Yellow-rumped Warbler? was among the marshes at the Pond.

The Pond or the Lake lol were teeming with such a variety of shorebirds. I think Northern Shovelers were aplenty. Some Black-necked Stilts too. Did I spot Cinnamon Teals? Grebes were present, not many though.

And on the way there via Gentry, on the left there's a small pond; Kate's Lake. Some fishermen were seen at the Southern portion lol. I took pics at the Northern portion, a veritable colony of Black-crowned Night-Herons reside there, a must see spot. Black Phoebes were ubiquitous wherever waters were around. Snowy Egrets too.

Refuge, can't go further than the observation deck, so not so productive. Maybe should've pushed through the Photography blind(Hardenberger trail?), dunno.
On the way back to Bannister(and to 86N), did spot an American Kestrel.

Salton Sea Beach wasn't bad, White Pelicans, Great Egrets, Great Blue Herons were prominent.

Now I'm not sure I should explore the Northeastern portion tomorrow(but will probably do lol);

Salton Sea State Recreation Area($5 fee required),
Wister Wildlife Management Area($2 voluntary fee),
Red Hill Area.

In fact wasn't that overwhelmed, since I've already spotted the majority of those birds at other locations such as Malibu Lagoon, Bolsa Chica(Terns were diving again and again there, a rare sight indeed!), Irvine area, San Diego areas, and  such as San Elijo and San Dieguito, etc...

Now the only significant area I haven't explored yet is the Palos Verdes area; So. Coast Botanical Garden, Cabrillo Beach, Pt. Fermin. Should visit Upper Newport Bay again, too. The reputation is too good, and I didn't really explore it much during the 1st brief visit.
