U.S. birders spend as much money for seed as U.S. gov's donation to Africa

According to John Marzluff's book Welcome to Subirdia p. 82-3

"Across U.S, birders, buy one half milllion to nearly one and a quarter million tons of seed.

Roughly same amount as corn, wheat, rice that U.S. gov donates annually to feed people in Africa.

Annual cost of $3.5 billion.  Hence 350 species of birds has been reported eating at feeders in U.S."

Bolsa Chica >> Upper Newport Bay

Not only for birding, as I've already mentioned.

There's no restroom, at least on the Bay Dr. side, at UNB!! At BC, both at Warner Ave. entrance and at the walkbridge, there's restrooms.  So had to curtail birding hastily last Sunday. Even San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary wasn't exactly good in this regard.  Or is it just Huntington Beach > Irvine in municipal undertakings lol.

UNB does have a nice setting; you can bird quite easily facing the river early in the morning, because the sun is behind your back.

Yet, the NOISE!  When I went to the patch of scrubs again(after the May Sea and Sage Audubon bird trip), couldn't hear Yellow-Breasted Chat(if there was any), because the planes repeatedly took off from god knows where, the airport must be pretty near. It was like UNLV campus; so bad for birding lol.
