American Birding Association Field Guide to Birds of California (American Birding Association State Field)

Finally, after repeated delay, the book by Alvaro Jaramillo arrived.

Not bad. Good pictures, crisp explanation of characteristics, and season and places to watch. The author lives in No. Cal though, so he usually mentions those locations.

Anyhow, did want to buy a book focusing on No. Cal, so it's okay.

And Bolsa Chica along with Angeles Crest Hwy was particularly mentioned by him in the best places to visit in LA area. Naturally. He didn't mention Upper Newport Bay; but understandably, since I was underwhelmed by it as well. You don't need to go there, BC is enough for shorebirds.

On SD area, he mentioned Kitchen Creek Road, that must be good.  50 miles east of SD..still worth a visit, since he mentioned Gray Vireo and Lawrence's Goldfinch, which I haven't seen. Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is also mentioned, but not sure if it's really worth a visit, since I've already visited similar topographical areas such as Palm Springs and Indio Area such as 100 Palms and Big Morongo..and San Jacinto area as well.
