Orange County birding

So followed Schram's route, from Barlett, Le Bard Park/Santa Ana river, Fairview Park bluff(not the lower portion which was noted for California Gnatcatcher, damn), Canyon Park, then Upper Newport Bay around 11am and then SJWS briefly(just checked pond C & D, B just a glimpse, too hot).

Barlett was good as usual, didn't know there was an entrance on the Coldwater Ln. side. Quite big too, should explore more fully next time. Kestrel, Cooper's Hawk?, 2 CYs, lots of passerines(Yellow and Macgillervray's Warblers spotted, methink)..

Santa Ana river from Le Bard was meh, you don't have to cross the bike bridge; on the right, there's a concrete? pathway down the river, you can watch some shorebirds from there; otherwise, nothing. There were pairs of Willet?/Mallard?/Snowy Egret(male with an aroused crest was chasing female, but failed lol) underneath the pathway to Fairview park(little stream), that's all.

Santa Ana river from the gas station(now defunct, Del Taco there) was pretty empty as well. Crows, swallows, Great Egret from afar, and Whimbrel.

Fairview bluff; vernal pools all dried up, and toy planes abound. Turkey Vulture spotted though, it was actually seen quite frequently today, along with an Osprey.

Canyon park seemed pretty promising, but next time.

UNB was just so-so, by the time I arrived at SJWS around 1pm, was utterly exhausted; thankfully Audubon house was open! So bought a drink($1).  Found Nutmeg Mannikins right across the drinking faucet behind the Audubon house(pathway to Ponds C,D,E), that was the surprise find today.

Should tally up the species count and post later. Some birds pics as well.

P.S. About... 40 species lol. Boy, I'm so bad at birding.

P.P.S.  A guy noticed my Sibley Western Region guide(borrowed it from the library) at a Tea store and told me he saw two Golden(or was it Bald) Eagles entangled in a fight? at the Grand Canyon lol. Now I've never been there, funnily. Maybe should bird there..
