John will maintain his regular schedule throughout the summer, with walks on the third Saturdays of June, July, and August. The walks alternate each month between the San Andres Dr. and Lower Crest Canyon trailheads (see schedule above). Birding during the summer months at San Dieguito Lagoon provides an opportunity to study the herons, egrets, stilts, avocets, and birds of the adjacent uplands that nest in North County. By August, some early-migrating shorebird species will begin arriving from their northern breeding grounds.
San Andreas Drive Trailhead—From I-5, take Via de la Valle east; turn right (south) on San Andres Dr. and go to end of road.
Leader: John Haddock, 760-941-7824.
Join the BVAS birders for our basic birding class and bird count at Buena Vista Lagoon each month. Everyone is invited to join the class for some informal, no-pressure birding and lots of friendly tips. We’ll meet at the Nature Center at 8 a.m. and then caravan around the lagoon to a series of selected stops to observe birds, discuss bird behavior, and record the number of species we see.
