12/15 Descanso Garden pics

Quite a day of birding. My best day at Descanso, ever lol. Normally I can't spot many species here, but today, almost 30! A record for me. Pond had all kinds, Goose, Mallards, Coot, male Ring-necked Duck, 5 Northern Shovelers, Great Blue Heron, Great Egret, and Snowy Egret.

Even before reaching here, a hummer, No. Mockingbird, WSJ, and Towhees. Especially Spotted Towhees, they were literally crawling next to the flower garden(small Maze area in the shaded canopy). Oh Bewick's Wren was there as well.   Even found a Cal. Thrasher, which was quite bold, gamboling at the edge of the pond, where another Bewick's was spotted as well.  Fox Sparrow was nearby, also White-crowned Sparrow. At the oak tree at the entrance of the birding deck, Hutton's Vireo and Oak Titmouse. Another birder found Oregon Junko as well but I couldn't spot it, spotted a couple elsewhere though.

Ubiquitous Yellow-throated Warblers and Ruby-crowned Kinglets were with WSJs, crows and ravens at the higher grounds. Couldn't locate Black Phoebe, Hermit Thrush, Common Yellowthroat though. Woodpeckers just heard, but didn't persue it climbing high this time, generally stuck to lower grounds. Oh Orange-crowned Warbler was found as well.

Descanso isn't particularly productive for warblers(that haven is nearby Hahamongna), but very reliable for Spotted Towhees and Oak Titmice. Situated in higher elevation than Huntington or Arboretum, so probably natural I guess. In that sense a bit similar to Eaton Canyon Nature Center area.

Someone recently reported at ebird a Yellow-breasted Chat, incongruously, so half-hoped to spot or at least hear it, but dunno, don't think so.
