Anahuac NWR and environs - Day 3
Finally. Only birded for about 2.5 hours from 11:30, too bad. Was too tired so didn't dare visit here again on the final day. As I said the gravel roads were a bit too much. Paved roads around Shoveler Pond was nice though. Willows harbored some passerines like Hooded Warbler and Northern Parula, but it was too windy.
American Golden-Plover on the field along the road to Anahuc. Thought it was a Buff-breasted Sandpiper, too bad. Still, a good bird, to be sure
Alligator! Do you know those reptiles including snakes are intelligent and also emotional? Do read Bradshaw's 'Carnivore Minds', which I borrowed from the library. You'll be quite surprised. Men, especially Western men are cruel, not those carnivores. Rattlesnake roundups(Sweetwater, Texas is the largest) are just...mind boggling in its cruelty.
White-faced Ibis, in breeding plumage
Finally; Fulvous-whistling Duck! Absolutely gorgeous! Shyer than Blue-winged Teal
Common Gallinule was indeed common!
Purple Gallinule! Yoo-hoo~
Eastern Kingbird
Gadwall, more common here, especially at Malibu Lagoon
